Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start chatting on OmeTalk?

Starting is easy! Simply visit ometalk.app, select your gender, agree to our terms, and click "Start Chatting." You'll be instantly matched with a random stranger. No registration, no email, no hassle—just pure conversation.

Do I need to create an account?

No! OmeTalk is completely anonymous and doesn't require any account creation. You don't need to provide an email, phone number, or any personal information. Each chat session is independent and temporary, ensuring maximum privacy and anonymity.

Can I choose who I chat with?

You can set preferences for matching! Before starting, you can filter by gender preference and select shared interests. If you enable "Match by interests," the system will try to connect you with people who share your hobbies. You can always skip to the next person if the conversation isn't working out.

What are interests and how do they work?

Interests are topics you enjoy (like Music, Sports, Gaming, Art, etc.). When you select interests and enable "Match by interests," OmeTalk tries to pair you with others who share those interests, increasing the chance of meaningful conversations. You can select up to 10 interests.

Is OmeTalk really anonymous?

Yes! OmeTalk provides strong anonymity. You don't need to register or provide personal information. Other users only see a random username, never your real identity. We don't store chat histories long-term. However, for safety and anti-abuse purposes, we may temporarily log technical data like IP addresses. Always avoid sharing personal information in chats to maintain your anonymity.

What information should I never share?

Never share: your full name, address, phone number, email, social media profiles, school or workplace, photos of yourself, financial information, or anything that could identify you in real life. Remember: once shared, information can't be unshared. When in doubt, don't share it!

How do I report inappropriate behavior?

If someone is harassing you, sending explicit content, or violating our community guidelines, immediately click the "Skip" button to end the conversation. While we're working on implementing a formal report system, the best action is to disconnect and move on. Never engage with abusive users—your safety comes first.

What should I do if someone makes me uncomfortable?

Trust your instincts! If something feels wrong, it probably is. Use the Skip button (or press ESC) to immediately end the conversation and find a new chat partner. You don't owe anyone an explanation. Block and move on. If someone is threatening or you feel unsafe, consider contacting local authorities.

Can conversations be monitored or recorded?

OmeTalk uses encryption for data transmission. We don't monitor individual conversations in real-time. However, for legal compliance and safety, we may access chat logs if there are reports of illegal activity or serious violations. Never assume any online conversation is 100% private—avoid sharing sensitive information.

How does the text chat feature work?

Text chat is our core feature. Once matched with someone, simply type your message in the input box and press "Send" or hit Enter. Your partner will see your message instantly. The conversation continues until either person clicks "Skip" or disconnects. Messages are not saved after the session ends.

What is the typing indicator?

When your chat partner is typing a message, you'll see an animated "typing..." indicator. This lets you know they're composing a response. Similarly, when you're typing, they'll see that you're active. This feature makes conversations feel more natural and engaging.

Can I chat with multiple people at once?

Currently, OmeTalk supports one-on-one conversations only. This design choice ensures focused, meaningful interactions. If you want to talk to someone new, simply click "Skip" or "Find New Chat" to be matched with a different person.

What happens when I click "Skip" or press ESC?

Clicking "Skip" (or pressing the ESC key) immediately ends your current conversation and starts searching for a new chat partner. The previous conversation is lost and cannot be recovered. Use this feature if the conversation isn't working out or if someone makes you uncomfortable.

How do I start a voice chat?

Once you're in a text conversation, you'll see a voice chat button (green phone icon). Click it to request voice chat. Your browser will ask for microphone permission—grant it to proceed. Your chat partner will be notified, and if they join, you'll both hear a connection sound. The voice chat visual animation will appear when active.

Do both people need to agree to voice chat?

Yes! Voice chat requires mutual consent. When you click the voice button, your partner sees a notification. They can choose to join or continue with text only. Always respect if someone prefers text chat—not everyone is comfortable with voice conversations.

Can I mute my microphone during voice chat?

Yes! Once voice chat is active, you'll see a mute button (microphone icon). Click it to mute/unmute your microphone without ending the call. The icon changes to show your mute status—a slashed microphone means you're muted. Your partner can still hear you when unmuted.

Why isn't my microphone working?

Common solutions: 1) Check browser permissions—your browser needs microphone access. 2) Ensure your microphone is plugged in and not muted in system settings. 3) Try refreshing the page and granting permissions again. 4) Check if another app is using your microphone. 5) Test with a different browser if issues persist.

What is the voice reactive animation?

When voice chat is active and connected, you'll see a beautiful animated background that reacts to sound levels. This visual feedback confirms your voice connection is working. The animation intensifies with audio activity, creating an immersive experience while you chat.

Why am I not being matched with anyone?

Several reasons this might happen: 1) Low user activity during your time zone's off-peak hours. 2) Very specific interest matching with few users. Try disabling "Match by interests" temporarily. 3) Network connectivity issues—check your internet connection. 4) Browser compatibility—try Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. Wait a few moments and the system will keep searching.

The website isn't loading or is very slow

Try these steps: 1) Refresh the page (Ctrl+R or Cmd+R). 2) Clear your browser cache and cookies. 3) Check your internet connection. 4) Disable browser extensions that might interfere (ad blockers, script blockers). 5) Try a different browser. 6) Check if your firewall or network is blocking WebSocket connections. If problems persist, our servers might be experiencing high traffic.

Messages aren't sending or receiving

If messages aren't going through: 1) Check the connection indicator at the top—make sure it shows "connected". 2) Refresh the page if you see "Reconnecting...". 3) Check your internet stability. 4) Your chat partner might have disconnected—try finding a new chat. 5) Firewall or network restrictions might be blocking the connection—try a different network.

I keep getting disconnected

Frequent disconnections can be caused by: 1) Unstable internet connection—try switching to wired ethernet or better WiFi. 2) Browser issues—try clearing cache or using a different browser. 3) Firewall/antivirus blocking WebSocket connections—check your security software settings. 4) VPN interference—try disabling VPN temporarily. 5) Server maintenance—usually brief, try again in a few minutes.

Why does the page say "Connection Lost"?

This means your connection to OmeTalk servers was interrupted. Common causes: 1) Internet connection dropped briefly. 2) Server is restarting (rare). 3) Your browser lost network connectivity. 4) Firewall blocked the connection. Click "Reconnect & Try Again" to restore your session. If it persists, check your network and try refreshing the page.

Is voice chat safe and private?

Voice chat uses WebRTC technology with end-to-end encryption between users. This means your voice data travels directly to your chat partner without going through our servers (peer-to-peer). However, remember that anonymity depends on you—don't reveal identifying information through voice (names, locations, etc.). Anyone can record audio, so never share sensitive information.

Can I use OmeTalk on mobile devices?

Yes! OmeTalk is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. Simply visit ometalk.app in your mobile browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox). The interface adapts to smaller screens with touch-friendly controls. Voice chat also works on mobile—just grant microphone permissions when prompted.

What is the stranger disconnected screen?

When your chat partner leaves the conversation (by closing the browser, clicking Skip, or losing connection), you'll see a "Stranger disconnected" message. This is normal—people come and go in anonymous chat. Simply click "Find New Chat" or press ESC to be matched with someone new. Don't take it personally!

How old do you need to be to use OmeTalk?

You must be at least 18 years old to use OmeTalk. Our platform is designed for adults. When you start chatting, you confirm that you're 18+. We take this seriously—underage usage violates our Terms of Service and can result in being blocked from the platform.

What are OmeTalk's community guidelines?

Our community guidelines prohibit: harassment, hate speech, explicit sexual content, spam, sharing illegal content, impersonating others, soliciting personal information, and any illegal activity. Treat others with respect. What's not allowed offline shouldn't be done online. Violations may result in being banned. See our full Community Guidelines page for details.

How does the online user counter work?

The user counter in the header shows how many people are currently active on OmeTalk. This number updates in real-time and includes everyone who's online—whether they're chatting, waiting for a match, or setting preferences. Higher numbers mean faster matching and more diverse conversations!

Why do I see "Waiting for connection..." for a long time?

This usually means we're establishing the initial connection to our servers. If it persists: 1) Check your internet connection. 2) Refresh the page. 3) Disable VPN temporarily. 4) Check if your firewall is blocking connections. 5) Try a different browser or device. If the problem continues, there might be temporary server issues—try again in a few minutes.
